Karnataka tourism minister K.J. George announced that the draft of the Coastal‑Malnad tourism policy will be completed by September 7.
Mangalore, Karnataka – The state’s tourism minister, K.J. George, told reporters that the draft of the long‑awaited Coastal‑Malnad tourism policy will be finalized by September 7. The policy aims to boost visitor numbers to the coastal belt and the Malnad highlands by promoting sustainable infrastructure, eco‑tourism projects and local cultural attractions.
The minister said the draft will be presented to the cabinet for approval before being released for public consultation. Stakeholders from the hospitality sector, local communities and environmental groups are expected to provide feedback during the consultation phase.
If approved, the policy could unlock funding for new resorts, improve road connectivity and support conservation initiatives, positioning the Coastal‑Malnad corridor as a premier destination for both domestic and international tourists.
The announcement comes as Karnataka seeks to diversify its tourism offerings beyond traditional hubs like Bengaluru and Mysuru, leveraging the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage to drive economic growth.
Further details will be shared once the draft is formally tabled, with the government indicating that implementation plans will follow shortly after approval.
