Indian and Nepali officials met to explore ways to better use existing border facilities and to strengthen cooperation against trans‑border crime.
Indian and Nepali representatives convened to examine how the two neighbours can make fuller use of the border infrastructure that links their countries. The dialogue focused on operational efficiencies, joint monitoring mechanisms and the potential for shared facilities at key crossing points.
Both sides highlighted the need to streamline customs and immigration procedures, aiming to facilitate legitimate trade and travel while reducing bottlenecks. They agreed to review existing projects and identify gaps where additional resources or coordination could improve throughput.
A major agenda item was the rising concern over trans‑border crime, including smuggling and illegal migration. The officials pledged to enhance intelligence sharing, conduct joint patrols and develop rapid response protocols to deter illicit activities.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to set up a bilateral working group that will draft actionable recommendations and report back within the next quarter.
