Botanists have documented two previously unknown plant species in the forested hills of Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh.
A team of botanists conducting field surveys in the hilly terrain of Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh, reported the discovery of two plant species that are new to science. The specimens were collected from undisturbed forest patches at elevations above 1,200 metres, where biodiversity is known to be high.
Preliminary analysis suggests that the plants belong to distinct genera previously unrecorded in the region. Detailed taxonomic work, including morphological comparison and DNA sequencing, is underway to formally describe and name the species.
The findings underscore the ecological significance of Arunachal's Eastern Himalaya foothills and reinforce calls for stronger conservation measures to protect these fragile habitats from logging and infrastructure development.
