Two birds bred in captivity were released into their natural habitat in Rajasthan as part of a conservation effort.

Wildlife officials in Rajasthan have recently set free two Great Indian Bustards that were raised in captivity. The birds were transported to a suitable release site in the state’s arid zone and released under the supervision of conservation teams.
The Great Indian Bustard is listed as critically endangered, with only a few hundred individuals remaining in the wild. Reintroducing captive‑bred birds is seen as a vital step to bolster the dwindling population and restore the species to its historic range.
The release forms part of a broader program coordinated by the state forest department and partner NGOs, which aims to monitor the birds’ adaptation and improve habitat conditions. Authorities plan to continue breeding and release activities over the coming years to ensure the species’ long‑term survival.
