Tripura CM says idle tea estates could unlock new investment opportunities

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha highlighted that unused tea land in Tripura can be tapped for fresh investment projects, aiming to boost the state's economy.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said that the large tracts of tea land in Tripura that are currently lying idle present a promising avenue for new investments. He emphasized that unlocking these parcels could diversify the state's economic base beyond traditional agriculture.
Tripura, a known tea‑growing region, has several estates that have not been fully cultivated or processed in recent years. The government believes that these under‑utilised assets can attract investors interested in setting up processing units, agro‑tourism facilities, or ancillary industries linked to tea production.
The state administration is preparing a framework to facilitate private participation, including clear land‑use policies and incentives. Officials expect that channeling capital into these dormant tea lands will generate employment, increase farmer incomes, and contribute to overall fiscal health.
While detailed guidelines are still being drafted, the CM assured that the government will engage with potential partners to ensure transparent and sustainable development of the tea sector.
