A fresh weather system set to activate on October 24 has already pushed temperatures below 20 °C in ten Rajasthan cities, marking a notable early‑season cooling.
The Indian Meteorological Department reported that on October 23, daytime temperatures in ten districts of Rajasthan fell below the 20 °C mark, a level usually seen later in the winter season. Cities such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur, Ajmer, Alwar, Bharatpur, Jaisalmer, Kota and Sawai Madhopur recorded maximum highs ranging from 18 °C to 20 °C, according to data from local weather stations.
Meteorologists attribute the sudden cooling to an incoming western disturbance that is expected to become fully active from October 24. The system is likely to bring scattered showers and a further drop in night-time temperatures across the state over the next 48‑72 hours.
The department advised residents to stay updated with forecasts, especially in hilly and desert fringe areas where temperature swings can affect health and agriculture. Farmers were cautioned that early cold snaps may impact rabi sowing schedules, while commuters were reminded to carry warm clothing during early mornings and evenings.
Historically, such western disturbances have ushered in the first noticeable chill in Rajasthan, often preceding the broader winter front that spreads across northern India in late November.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will issue alerts if the weather system intensifies or brings significant rainfall.
