Religious leaders in Ujjain gathered to call for a stringent law penalising blasphemy after remarks targeting Baba Bageshwar and Hindu deities.
Ujjain witnessed a large gathering of priests and members of the Mahamandaleshwar community on Saturday, where they demanded the enactment of a strict law against blasphemy. The rally, organized under the banner of "Baba Bageshwar ke khilaf morchabandi," featured senior cleric Pandit Sharma urging the government to criminalise any speech that insults God or Hindu scriptures, with penalties he described as "harsh and deterrent."
Speakers also highlighted recent statements by individuals such as Dheerendra Shastri, who allegedly mocked Lord Krishna and the sacred flute, describing them as "tilted" and ridiculing the instrument. The protesters argued that such remarks undermine the sanctity of Sanatan Dharma and should attract legal action.
Organisers announced plans to submit a formal petition to the Madhya Pradesh state government, seeking the inclusion of blasphemy provisions in the Indian Penal Code. They emphasized that the demand is not merely symbolic but aims to protect religious sentiments across the nation.
The rally concluded with a prayer chant and a call for unity among Hindu religious bodies to press the authorities for swift legislative action.
