Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik promised comprehensive aid to Ganjam district as Cyclone Arnab leaves extensive destruction across the region.
Cyclone Arnab swept through Odisha's coastal belt on Thursday, causing severe damage to homes, infrastructure and agricultural fields in Ganjam district. Local authorities reported dozens of villages cut off by floodwaters and power outages affecting thousands of residents.
In a press briefing later that day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik assured that the state government would mobilise all available resources to restore normalcy. He announced an immediate deployment of disaster response teams, medical camps and relief supplies, including food, clean drinking water and temporary shelters for displaced families.
The CM also directed the state disaster management authority to fast‑track compensation for affected households and to coordinate with the central government for additional financial assistance. Rehabilitation work, including road clearance and restoration of electricity, is slated to begin within 48 hours.
Officials said that the relief operation will be monitored closely to ensure that aid reaches the most vulnerable sections, particularly women, children and the elderly, who have been hardest hit by the cyclone’s high winds and heavy rains.
