The Defence Research and Development Organisation conducted a test‑flight of the Pralay missile, demonstrating a 500‑km range and a 1‑ton payload capability.

In a recent trial, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out a flight test of the indigenous Pralay quasi‑ballistic missile. The missile is designed to travel up to 500 kilometres and carry a payload of up to 1,000 kilograms, meeting the specifications announced by the ministry of defence.

The test was conducted under controlled conditions, with telemetry and tracking systems monitoring the missile’s trajectory, speed and impact parameters. Engineers reported that the missile followed the intended quasi‑ballistic flight profile, confirming the performance of its propulsion and guidance subsystems.

Successful validation of Pralay adds a new tactical option to India’s missile arsenal, enhancing short‑range strike capability for the army and navy. Defence officials said the system will complement existing platforms and support the country’s broader goal of self‑reliant defence production.

The DRDO plans further trials to certify the missile for operational deployment and to integrate it with launch platforms across the services. Once inducted, Pralay is expected to bolster India’s deterrence posture in the region.
