A former Indian ambassador says the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping may speed up the warming of ties, but the unresolved border dispute remains the crucial test.
New Delhi – An ex‑envoy to China has assessed that the recent face‑to‑face between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping could provide momentum for a broader reconciliation between the two neighbours. The diplomat highlighted that the personal rapport built during the talks may help lower diplomatic tensions that have lingered since the 2020 border clashes.
However, the envoy cautioned that the unresolved Line of Actual Control (LAC) remains the litmus test for any lasting improvement. Both sides have repeatedly expressed a willingness to resolve the standoff, yet incidents along the frontier continue to surface, underscoring the fragility of the process.
