The North Eastern Council has released a total of Rs 79.53 crore for development projects across the Northeast, with Meghalaya allotted the biggest portion of the fund.
The North Eastern Council (NEC) announced a fresh release of Rs 79.53 crore to finance a range of infrastructure and socio‑economic projects in the eight‑state Northeast region. Among the beneficiary states, Meghalaya secured the highest allocation, reflecting its priority status in the council's current development agenda.
The fund is earmarked for initiatives such as road upgrades, rural electrification, water supply schemes and skill‑development programmes that aim to boost connectivity and livelihoods in the hilly state. State officials said the increased share will accelerate ongoing projects and enable new ones that were previously delayed due to funding gaps.
NEC spokesperson confirmed that the allocation follows a performance‑based assessment of each state's project readiness and alignment with the council's broader goal of balanced regional growth. The council expects the disbursed amount to be utilized within the current fiscal year, with regular monitoring to ensure transparency and impact.
Meghalaya's Chief Minister welcomed the decision, urging swift implementation and coordination between state departments and NEC to maximize the benefits for local communities.
