The North Eastern Council has released a fund of ₹26.56 crore for development projects in Meghalaya, with the Chokpot‑Kharukol road highlighted as a key priority.

The North Eastern Council (NEC) announced the disbursement of ₹26.56 crore to the state of Meghalaya for a range of infrastructure and development initiatives. The allocation is part of NEC's ongoing effort to boost connectivity and economic growth across the North‑Eastern region.

Among the projects slated for funding, the Chokpot‑Kharukol road has been singled out as a flagship undertaking. The road, which links the remote border town of Chokpot with Kharukol, is expected to improve access to health, education and market facilities for local communities.

State officials said the funds will be released in phases, with the road construction slated to begin in the next quarter. Completion of the corridor is projected to stimulate trade with neighboring Bangladesh and reduce travel time for residents, thereby fostering broader socio‑economic development in the region.
