Surrender If the Manipur Government Cannot Manage," States MLA Meghachandra

Manipur CLP Leader and Wangkhem Assembly Constituency MLA Keisham Meghachandra stated that the government should surrender if it cannot properly manage and provide complete, essential healthcare facilities to every individual and maintain a fully functional health centre. The CLP Leader stated this to media persons after inspecting the present condition of the Community Health Centre (CHC) Yairipok, located within the Wangkhem Assembly Constituency of Thoubal District in Manipur.Highlighting that providing comprehensive healthcare facilities to the people of Manipur is crucial, he questioned whether the government is paying attention, pointing out that health centres across Manipur are unable to function properly due to shortages of doctors, nurses, and other staff, thereby causing significant public hardship. "Should people travel to RIMS or JNIMS even for a minor operation? Healthcare is not a matter of pleading with the government; it is a fundamental necessity. If the government cannot take responsibility and manage it, they should surrender," said Meghachandra.Meghachandra further stated that CHC Yairipok serves patients not only from Thoubal District's Wangkhem and Heirok ACs, but also from Imphal East District's Andro AC and Kamjong District. Today alone, over 150 patients visited this CHC for OPD consultations. Finding staff shortages and several transfers during today's inspection is an injustice to the people of this region.Against the sanctioned strength of 9 nurses at CHC Yairipok, only 4 were posted. Among these 4 nurses, one was on maternity leave. However, it was found today that another nurse has also been transferred out. How can a Community Health Centre function with just 3 nurses? Therefore, the government must recruit the shortage of doctors, nurses, and staff, and put a stay on the transfers. Efforts should be made to provide complete healthcare facilities, and the health department must assure the people of Yairipok that CHC Yairipok will be enabled to function as a full-fledged health centre, stated CLP leader Meghachandra.During today's inspection of the condition of CHC Yairipok, MPCC senior spokesperson N. Bupendra Meitei, CHC Yairipok MO in-charge Dr. Robinson, members of the Hospital Management Committee, Wangkhem Block Congress Committee working president Sorokhaibam Kunjeshwor, and several other functionaries were also present.
