Manipur CM inaugurates Archives Week exhibition, highlights Puya manuscripts

Imphal – The Chief Minister of Manipur officially inaugurated the state’s Archives Week and Records Exhibition on Thursday, marking the start of a week‑long showcase of archival material held at the Manipur State Archives. The ceremony was attended by senior officials, historians and representatives of cultural institutions.

The exhibition featured a curated collection of rare Puya manuscripts, the ancient Meitei scriptures that chronicle the region’s history, mythology and law. Curators highlighted the delicate condition of several scrolls and underscored their value for scholars studying South‑Asian heritage.

During his address, the CM urged the government to accelerate digitisation and conservation efforts, noting that preserving these records is essential for future generations. He announced additional funding for the archives and pledged collaboration with academic bodies to facilitate research on the Puya texts.

The event concludes with a series of seminars and workshops aimed at training archivists in modern preservation techniques, reinforcing the state’s commitment to safeguarding its documentary legacy.
