Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, and several Trinamool Congress MPs were taken into custody by Delhi police during a protest in the capital.
The demonstration was organized by the TMC to demand the release of a party leader who had been arrested earlier, with demonstrators gathering outside the Parliament House.
Police said the detainees were held for questioning and were later released on bail after a brief detention.
The incident has drawn criticism from opposition leaders who claim the arrests were politically motivated.
