The Madhya Pradesh government announced that under the Swamitva Yojana, registration of rural properties valued at ₹87,000 crore will be free, with the state covering the estimated ₹9,000 crore stamp duty and registration charges.
The state government of Madhya Pradesh has unveiled a new component of the Swamitva Yojana that will make the registration of rural land and property holdings free of cost. The move targets assets collectively valued at around ₹87,000 crore across the state’s villages.
Under the scheme, the administration will shoulder the stamp duty and registration fees, which are estimated to total roughly ₹9,000 crore. By absorbing these charges, the government aims to encourage landowners to formalise their holdings and reduce disputes over ownership.
Local revenue offices and district collectors have been instructed to set up dedicated facilitation centres where owners can submit documents and obtain registration without paying the usual fees. The process is expected to begin in the upcoming fiscal quarter and will be rolled out in phases, starting with districts that have the highest backlog of unregistered properties.
Officials anticipate that the free registration drive will improve land‑record accuracy, boost credit access for farmers and support the broader goal of transparent land governance in Madhya Pradesh.
