ISRO chief V. Narayanan announced that India aims to launch its own space station by 2035, underscoring the nation’s expanding space technology capabilities.
New Delhi – In a statement to the press, ISRO chairman V. Narayanan said India will develop and operate an indigenous space station by the year 2035. The announcement marks a milestone in the country’s long‑term space roadmap, which has so far focused on satellite launches, lunar missions and a planned crewed flight.
Narayanan outlined a phased approach, beginning with the design and testing of core modules in the next few years, followed by integration with existing launch vehicles. He indicated that the project will be funded through a combination of government allocations and partnerships with Indian research institutions.
The chief also highlighted that space‑based applications are now being used in more than 50 sectors, ranging from agriculture and disaster management to telecommunications and health. A domestic space station is expected to accelerate research in micro‑gravity science, foster indigenous technology development, and enhance India’s strategic standing in the global space arena.
