Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have signed a memorandum of understanding to procure a total of 2,000 megawatts of electricity, aiming to strengthen power supply in both states.
The governments of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to secure 2,000 megawatts of power for their respective grids. The agreement, announced by the chief ministers of both states, is intended to address growing electricity demand and reduce shortfalls during peak periods.
Under the MoU, the two states will coordinate to identify suitable generation sources, which may include existing thermal plants, renewable projects or new capacity additions. The collaborative framework also envisages joint procurement mechanisms to achieve cost efficiencies.
Officials said the partnership will be implemented in phases, with the initial tranche of power expected to be available within the next 12 months. The move reflects a broader trend of inter‑state cooperation to enhance energy security across India.
The signing ceremony was held in a joint meeting of the state energy departments, underscoring the importance both governments place on reliable electricity supply for industrial growth and household consumption.
