The Haryana government will convert all Special Newborn Care Units into Mother‑Newborn Care Units by 1 November, aiming for integrated care of mothers and infants.
The Health Department of Haryana announced that every Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) in the state will be re‑designated as a Mother‑Newborn Care Unit (MNCU) by 1 November. The restructuring is intended to provide combined medical attention for mothers and their newborns under one roof, thereby improving health outcomes and streamlining service delivery.
Officials said the conversion will involve upgrading infrastructure, adding equipment suitable for post‑natal care, and training staff to handle both maternal and neonatal cases. Funding for the upgrades has been earmarked in the state health budget, and implementation will be monitored by a dedicated task force.
The move aligns with national health guidelines that encourage integrated mother‑infant care, and the state expects it to reduce infant mortality and enhance post‑delivery recovery for mothers across both urban and rural health facilities.
