The Gujarat cabinet announced a package of subsidies and tax breaks for a new bulk drug park in Jambusar, aiming to lessen the state's dependence on imported medicines.
Gujarat's state government unveiled a set of financial incentives to accelerate the development of a bulk drug manufacturing park in Jambusar, Bharuch district. The package, announced by the chief minister's office, includes capital subsidies, reduced electricity tariffs and a five-year tax holiday for firms that set up production units in the park.
Officials said the scheme is designed to attract both domestic and foreign pharmaceutical companies, creating a hub that can supply active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and finished formulations to the Indian market. By fostering local production, the state hopes to cut its reliance on imported drugs and strengthen supply chain resilience.
The initiative is part of Gujarat's broader industrial policy that targets high‑value sectors such as pharma, chemicals and biotechnology. Industry analysts expect the incentives to generate significant investment, boost employment in the region and position the state as a leading hub for bulk drug manufacturing in India.
The government will also provide land at concessional rates and facilitate fast‑track clearances for infrastructure development. Stakeholders are invited to submit proposals by the end of the next quarter, with the first phase of the park slated for completion in 2027.
