The Goa government has announced a scheme that could subsidise up to 50% of the cost of electric two‑wheelers and autorickshaws, aiming to boost clean‑mobility options for local transport operators.
The state of Goa has unveiled a new incentive programme that will provide up to half of the purchase cost for electric bike taxis and autorickshaws. The subsidy, announced by the Goa transport department, is part of a broader effort to reduce emissions and promote sustainable transport across the state.
Under the scheme, operators who switch to electric vehicles will receive financial assistance that could cover up to 50% of the vehicle’s price, subject to eligibility criteria set by the government. The initiative is expected to lower operating costs for drivers and reduce the carbon footprint of the state’s public transport fleet.
Officials say the programme will be rolled out in phases, with initial approvals to be granted to a limited number of applicants. The government has also pledged to improve charging infrastructure to support the transition to electric mobility.
The announcement follows similar moves in other Indian states that aim to accelerate the adoption of electric two‑wheelers and three‑wheelers. Transport operators in Goa anticipate that the subsidy will make electric options more affordable and help them meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
The Goan government has not yet released a detailed application process, but it has indicated that interested operators can apply through the state’s official transport portal.
