Final monsoon showers to hit East and Central India, officials say

The Indian Meteorological Department forecasts that the remaining monsoon rains will arrive over eastern and central states later this week, bringing relief to drought‑prone areas.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a short‑term outlook indicating that the last phase of the monsoon will move into the eastern and central regions of the country within the next few days. Areas expected to receive the showers include Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Bihar.
Meteorologists say the incoming system is likely to bring moderate to heavy rainfall, with accumulations ranging from 30 to 80 millimetres in the affected districts. The timing aligns with the typical retreat of the monsoon, which usually concludes by the end of September.
Officials highlighted that the rains could provide much‑needed relief to agricultural zones that have faced below‑average precipitation this season, potentially improving sowing conditions for the upcoming kharif crops. However, they also warned residents to remain vigilant for localized flooding and water‑logging, especially in low‑lying and river‑bank areas.
The IMD will continue to monitor the system and issue updates through its regional weather offices and digital platforms. Citizens are advised to follow official advisories and take precautionary measures where necessary.
