The India Meteorological Department reported that a deep depression made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coastline, bringing widespread rainfall that is expected to continue over the next few days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an update on Tuesday confirming that a deep depression moved inland after making landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast. The system, characterized by sustained low pressure and heavy cloud cover, is expected to bring intense rain across the coastal districts.
Meteorologists warned that the depression could produce rainfall of 100‑150 mm in some areas, with the potential for localized flooding and water‑logging in low‑lying regions. Coastal towns such as Kakinada, Visakhapatnam and Machilipatnam are under the highest alert.
Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow instructions from local disaster management teams. Relief camps and emergency response units have been placed on standby to assist any communities affected by sudden floods.
The IMD forecast indicates that the system will gradually weaken over the next 48 hours, but intermittent showers may persist inland, keeping agricultural fields and road networks vulnerable.
