The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) says Dhanteras transactions have reached a historic Rs 1.25 lakh crore, the highest ever recorded for the festival.
India's annual Dhanteras shopping season has set a new benchmark, with total business crossing Rs 1.25 lakh crore, according to data released by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). The figure, which encompasses gold, jewellery, silver and other festive purchases, marks the highest turnover ever recorded for the auspicious occasion.
CAIT's report indicates that the Rs 1.25 lakh crore tally represents a significant jump from the previous year's business, which stood at around Rs 1.1 lakh crore. The growth is attributed to a combination of higher disposable incomes, favourable market sentiment and a strong demand for traditional gifts during the festival.
Retailers across major cities reported brisk footfall and robust sales of gold ornaments, with many stores exhausting their stock within days of the festival's onset. Analysts say the surge also reflects confidence among consumers ahead of the upcoming wedding season and the broader Diwali celebrations.
The record-breaking Dhanteras turnover is expected to provide a timely boost to the Indian economy, supporting the jewellery manufacturing sector, ancillary industries and employment in the retail segment during the festive quarter.
