The Union Government has sanctioned a fund of Rs 9.94 billion to improve National Highway 10 in Sikkim, aiming to boost connectivity and regional development.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has cleared an allocation of Rs 9.94 billion for the redevelopment of National Highway 10 in the state of Sikkim. The funding is intended to widen the carriageway, strengthen the pavement and construct necessary bridges and tunnels to ensure all‑weather access between Siliguri in West Bengal and Gangtok, the state capital. The project will be executed by the National Highways Authority of India in coordination with the Sikkim government as part of a broader push to upgrade strategic road corridors in the Northeast. Officials expect the upgraded highway to cut travel time, facilitate trade and bolster tourism, although a detailed implementation schedule has not been released yet.
