The Madhya Pradesh transport department announced that while Ola and Rapido bike‑taxi services will continue, riders using privately registered bikes will face enforcement action.
The transport authority of Madhya Pradesh has issued a directive concerning bike‑taxi operations in Bhopal. While the popular app‑based services Ola and Rapido will remain functional, the department clarified that the vehicles must be registered under the commercial fleet numbers issued by the state.
Riders who continue to use privately owned motorcycles – identified by personal registration numbers – to provide paid rides will be subject to legal action, including fines and possible seizure of the vehicle. The move aims to ensure compliance with safety and insurance norms that apply to commercial transport.
Officials emphasized that the decision does not constitute a blanket ban on bike‑taxi services. Instead, it targets unregulated operators, seeking to bring the entire sector under the same regulatory framework that governs other public transport modes in the city.
