Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma pays tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary

Assam's chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, marked the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri with a brief public address. Sarma highlighted that Shastri, before rising to national prominence, had walked the streets of Assam, interacting with ordinary citizens and understanding grassroots concerns.

The CM praised Shastri's simplicity, integrity and his role in shaping India's early post‑independence policies, noting that these qualities remain relevant for today's leaders. He urged the people of Assam to draw inspiration from Shastri's dedication to public service.

The remarks were part of a commemorative event organized by the state government, which also included the hoisting of the national flag and a moment of silence. No new policy announcements were made during the ceremony.

Sarma's tribute underscored the historical ties between Assam and the national leadership of the 1960s, reinforcing the state's respect for Shastri's contributions to the nation.
