The state government will inaugurate the Agartala Tea Auction Centre on 29 October, marking a significant step for Tripura’s tea growers and traders.
Agartala will host the inauguration of a dedicated tea auction centre on 29 October, an event slated to reshape the marketing landscape for tea produced in Tripura. The facility, located in the state capital, is expected to provide local growers with a direct platform to sell their produce to national and international buyers.
The new centre is the first of its kind in Tripura, aiming to streamline the auction process that previously relied on facilities in neighboring states. By bringing the auction house closer to the growers, the government hopes to reduce transaction costs, improve price realization, and encourage higher investment in tea cultivation.
Tripura contributes a modest share to India’s overall tea output, and the establishment of a local auction hub is seen as a catalyst for expanding the sector’s footprint. Officials anticipate that the centre will attract traders, boost export potential, and generate ancillary employment opportunities in the region.
State representatives are expected to attend the inauguration, underscoring the administration’s commitment to strengthening the tea value chain and supporting the livelihoods of thousands of tea farmers across the state.
