A 12-year-old boy from Rajasthan has formally taken Jain diksha, renouncing worldly life to follow a path of asceticism.
A twelve‑year‑old boy from Rajasthan has undergone a formal Jain diksha ceremony, marking his entry into a life of renunciation and spiritual discipline. The young aspirant, identified only by his first name in local reports, pledged to observe the strict vows of a Jain monk, including celibacy, non‑possession, and adherence to the five great vows of non‑violence, truth, non‑stealing, chastity and non‑attachment.
The ceremony was conducted at a Jain temple in the state, attended by senior monks, family members and a small gathering of devotees. Organisers said the boy expressed a deep desire to pursue spiritual goals despite his tender age, and his family supported the decision after consulting religious scholars.
Local Jain authorities noted that while it is uncommon for children so young to take full monastic vows, the tradition allows for early initiation under special circumstances. The boy will now reside in the monastery for training, receiving guidance on meditation, scriptural study and ethical conduct.
The event has drawn attention across the region, highlighting the continuing relevance of ascetic traditions in contemporary Indian society.
