Yellow Alert Issued as Monsoon Strengthens Over Himachal Pradesh from Aug 31

The Himachal Pradesh Meteorological Department announced a yellow alert for the state, indicating that the monsoon will regain strength from August 31. Forecast models show a marked increase in moisture influx, which is likely to bring sustained heavy rainfall across the hilly terrain.
Authorities have warned that the intensified monsoon could trigger flash floods, landslides and road blockages, especially in vulnerable valleys and low‑lying areas. Residents in districts such as Kangra, Mandi and Shimla are advised to stay alert and avoid non‑essential travel on mountain roads.
The department urged the public to keep emergency kits ready, follow updates on official channels, and cooperate with local disaster management teams. Early warnings and timely evacuations are being coordinated to minimise loss of life and property.
Meteorologists will continue to monitor the system and may upgrade the alert if conditions worsen, urging citizens to remain vigilant until the heavy rain subsides.
