On Maha Navami, temple authorities at Billeswar Devalaya in Nalbari, Assam, performed a ritual that involved the sacrifice of 28 buffaloes.

The Billeswar Devalaya in Nalbari district of Assam observed the Hindu festival of Maha Navami with a traditional animal sacrifice. According to reports, temple officials slaughtered 28 buffaloes as part of the ritual offerings prescribed for the occasion. The sacrifice was carried out in the temple courtyard under the supervision of priests, who later performed the customary rites to consecrate the meat. Local residents and devotees gathered to witness the ceremony, which is a long‑standing practice in some parts of the state during Navaratri. Authorities did not issue any statement about permits or legal compliance, and no injuries or disturbances were reported.
