The West Bengal administration has instructed all state employees to surrender their Swasthya Sathi health insurance cards by October 31, as part of a scheme review.
Kolkata, Oct 10 — The West Bengal government has issued a circular directing every state‑government employee to hand over their Swasthya Sathi health insurance cards no later than October 31. The order, circulated by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, cites a pending review of the Swasthya Sathi scheme and the need to update beneficiary records.
Under the scheme, employees receive a card that provides cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals across the state. Officials say the surrender exercise will help verify eligibility, prevent duplication and streamline claim processing.
Employees are asked to submit the cards to their respective departmental offices along with a simple acknowledgment form. The administration has warned that failure to comply may result in temporary suspension of the card’s benefits until the card is returned.
The directive comes ahead of the state’s annual health‑benefit audit, and officials expect the collected data to inform possible revisions to the scheme’s coverage and premium structure.
