Counting of ballot papers for four teacher and four graduate seats in Bihar's Legislative Council continues, while protests erupt in Patna with chants alleging vote theft.
The counting of ballot papers for eight seats in the Bihar Legislative Council is underway. Four seats are reserved for teachers and another four for graduates, and because the election was conducted on paper, the tally is expected to take several hours.
Election officials have indicated that results for the teacher constituencies will be announced first, followed by the graduate seats later today. Voters and party workers are awaiting the outcomes, which will determine the composition of the upper house.
In the state capital, Patna, crowds gathered outside the counting centre, chanting "vote theft" and demanding transparency. The protests have been largely peaceful but have caused disruptions in the vicinity of the venue.
The Election Commission has appealed for calm, assuring that the counting process is being monitored closely and that any irregularities will be investigated in accordance with the law.
