A carpool organized by the Punjab Congress to showcase party unity was met with widespread criticism and jokes from opponents, turning the event into a political roast.
Earlier this week, senior leaders of the Punjab Congress arranged a joint carpool ride, aiming to project internal cohesion ahead of upcoming electoral battles. The convoy, featuring several prominent party figures, travelled through key districts of the state as a visual statement of unity.
The gesture, however, quickly attracted sharp rebuke from rival parties and social media users, who seized the opportunity to lampoon the Congress leadership. Critics pointed to perceived disarray within the party and mocked the timing of the display, suggesting it was a desperate attempt to regain relevance.
Congress representatives defended the initiative, stating that the carpool was meant to connect with grassroots supporters and demonstrate a collaborative spirit. Political analysts noted that while the stunt succeeded in generating attention, the negative commentary may outweigh any intended positive impact.
The episode underscores the heightened political tensions in Punjab, where parties are vying for voter confidence ahead of the state assembly elections later this year.
