Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda will lay the foundation stone for a new medicine research centre in Keylong, Lahaul and Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, today.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda arrived in Keylong, the administrative hub of Lahaul and Spiti district, to commence the foundation‑stone laying ceremony for a dedicated medicine research centre. The event, scheduled for today, marks the first step in establishing a specialised facility aimed at advancing pharmaceutical research in the Himalayan region.

The centre is expected to focus on developing treatments suited to high‑altitude health challenges and to foster collaboration between local universities, research institutes and the private sector. Officials highlighted that the project will create research opportunities for scientists and provide a boost to the regional economy.

State health authorities indicated that the centre will be built on government‑allocated land and will receive funding from central and state health ministries. Completion is projected within the next three years, after which the facility will begin accepting research proposals and training programmes.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, along with local administrative leaders, underscoring the government's commitment to expanding medical research infrastructure in remote areas.
