The Tripura state administration has cleared the establishment of 55 additional anganwadi centres, aiming to enhance early childhood care and nutrition across the state.
Tripura's Chief Minister announced that the state cabinet has given the green light to set up 55 new anganwadi centres under the Integrated Child Development Services scheme. The decision follows a detailed assessment of underserved villages where early childhood facilities were lacking.
The additional centres are expected to serve thousands of children, pregnant women and lactating mothers by providing nutrition supplements, health check‑ups and pre‑school education. Officials said the rollout will begin in the next fiscal quarter, with priority given to remote districts.
State officials highlighted that the expansion aligns with the central government's goal of universalizing anganwadi coverage by 2025. Funding for the project will be drawn from both state allocations and central assistance under the National Nutrition Mission.
The ministry also pledged to recruit qualified anganwadi workers and helpers to ensure smooth operation of the new centres, emphasizing community participation and regular monitoring.
Local NGOs welcomed the move, noting that increased access to these services can significantly improve child health indicators and school readiness in Tripura's rural areas.
