Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that more than 30 acres of land will be set aside in Tripura for a dedicated cricket academy aimed at nurturing talent from the Northeast region.
Tripura's chief minister, Manik Saha, revealed that the state government will allocate over 30 acres of land for a purpose‑built cricket academy. The announcement was made during a press briefing in the capital, underscoring the government's commitment to sports infrastructure.
The facility is intended to serve as a high‑performance centre for budding cricketers from the eight Northeastern states, offering coaching, fitness, and talent‑identification programmes that are currently scarce in the region.
Funding for the project will come from the state budget, with plans to seek technical assistance and possible partnership with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Construction is slated to begin later this year, with the academy expected to be operational within two years.
State officials said the initiative aims to bridge the gap in representation of Northeastern players at national levels and to create a pipeline for future talent.
The move has been welcomed by local sports bodies, who view the academy as a catalyst for broader development of cricket and related sports in the region.
