Chief Minister Manik Saha said expanding postgraduate seats at Agartala Government Medical College will strengthen the state's healthcare future.
Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the addition of 58 postgraduate seats at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) in a press briefing, emphasizing that a stronger medical education system is vital for a healthier Tripura.
The new seats will be allocated across several specialties, raising the total PG intake at AGMC and supporting the state government's broader plan to upgrade medical infrastructure and retain talent within the region.
State officials indicated that the expansion will be accompanied by recruitment of additional faculty and enhancement of facilities, with dedicated funding earmarked for the purpose. The move is expected to increase the number of qualified doctors available to serve in Tripura's hospitals.
Medical students and health professionals welcomed the decision, viewing it as a concrete step toward addressing the chronic shortage of specialists in the state.
