The Tripura government has set a goal to empower 350,000 women to earn at least one lakh rupees annually by the 2028‑29 fiscal year.
The state administration of Tripura announced a new target to lift 3.5 lakh women into the “Lakhpati” income bracket by the fiscal year 2028‑29. The initiative, part of the state’s broader women‑empowerment agenda, seeks to provide skill training, financial assistance and market linkages to women from rural and urban areas.
Officials said the scheme will focus on sectors such as handloom, handicrafts, food processing and digital services, where women can generate sustainable earnings. Partnerships with banks and micro‑finance institutions are being finalised to ensure easy credit flow for aspiring entrepreneurs.
The government plans to monitor progress through quarterly reviews and will publish periodic reports on the number of beneficiaries achieving the one‑lakh‑rupee income threshold. If successful, the programme could serve as a model for other northeastern states aiming to boost women’s participation in the formal economy.
State Minister for Women and Child Development emphasized that the target aligns with Tripura’s commitment to the National Skill Development Mission and the broader goal of inclusive growth.
Stakeholders, including local NGOs and trade bodies, have welcomed the announcement, urging swift implementation and transparent beneficiary selection.
