The Tripura government has approved 58 additional postgraduate seats at Agartala Government Medical College, expanding medical education capacity in the state.
The health department of Tripura has cleared an increase of 58 postgraduate (PG) seats at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC). The decision, announced earlier this week, aims to strengthen specialist training in the northeastern state.
The new seats will be distributed across existing departments, allowing more doctors to pursue advanced degrees in fields such as surgery, medicine, and obstetrics. The allocation follows a review of the college's infrastructure and faculty strength, which were deemed sufficient to accommodate the expansion.
State officials said the move is part of a broader strategy to address the shortage of qualified specialists in Tripura's public hospitals. By boosting PG intake, the government hopes to retain more trained doctors within the state after graduation.
The addition brings the total number of PG positions at AGMC to a higher figure, positioning the institution as a more prominent hub for medical education in the region.
