A scheme in Tirupur aims to provide education, counselling and vocational training to girls freed from Naxal influence in Chhattisgarh.
The municipal authorities of Tirupur, in partnership with local NGOs, have set up a dedicated rehabilitation centre for girls who were rescued from Naxal‑linked groups operating in Chhattisgarh. The initiative focuses on providing formal schooling, psychological counselling and skill‑based training to help the minors reintegrate into mainstream society.
The programme, funded through a combination of municipal allocations and private donations, offers a safe residential environment where the girls receive regular health check‑ups and mentorship. Trainers from vocational institutes are scheduled to teach trades such as tailoring, computer basics and handicraft work, aligning with the city’s textile‑focused economy.
Officials said the effort reflects a broader commitment to address the humanitarian fallout of the insurgency and to give the rescued children a pathway to a stable future. The centre is expected to accommodate the initial batch of rescued girls and expand its capacity as more cases emerge.
The launch underscores Tirupur’s role beyond its textile reputation, positioning the city as a hub for social rehabilitation initiatives that bridge regional challenges across state lines.
