Three government school teachers and a writer from Bidar district have voluntarily pledged their bodies for post-mortem donation to aid medical students' studies and research. They were honored by Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMS).

Bidar: In a noble gesture, three government school teachers and a writer from Bidar district have voluntarily come forward to donate their bodies for medical students' study and research after their demise. The Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMS) honored them on Friday for their altruistic decision.

The individuals who pledged their bodies are writer Jagadevi S. Dubalgunde, a resident of Shivnagar in Bidar city; Jayashree S. Kalagi, a teacher at Gadavanti Government High School in Humnabad taluk; Dr. Sarika S. Ganga, a teacher at Humnabad Government High School; and Dr. Sanjukumar Satiwale, a teacher at Handikera Government Junior Primary School in Humnabad.

During a program held at BRIMS on October 16, the donors were felicitated with shawls and expressed gratitude by BRIMS Director Dr. Shantala Kaujalagi, Principal Dr. Rajesh Para, and Head of the Anatomy Department Dr. Sandeep Deshmukh. Inspired by reports published in newspapers about the importance of body donation, these individuals were honored in the presence of medical students. Body donation certificates were also distributed during the event.

Speaking at the event, body donor Dr. Sanjukumar Satiwale emphasized the need to cultivate a spirit of doing good in society amidst growing animosity and envy. He expressed pride in donating his body to aid medical students, believing it to be the noblest form of donation. Teachers Dr. Sarika S. Ganga and Jayashree S. Kalagi shared their long-held desire to donate their bodies, which was finally realized, bringing them happiness. They highlighted that every part and structure of the human body is an invaluable contribution to the learning of medical students.

BRIMS Director Dr. Shantala Kaujalagi stated that donation holds a significant place in Indian culture, and like Anna Daan (food donation), Vidya Daan (education donation), blood donation, and eye donation, body donation is also an extremely noble humanitarian service. She invoked the value 'Paropakarartham Idam Shariram' (This body is for the benefit of others), conveying the message that our bodies and capabilities should be used for the welfare of others. She added that the decision to dedicate one's body to medical education is not ordinary, stemming from a generous heart, humanitarian concern, and a noble spirit to contribute to future generations, hoping their decision inspires others.
