In a display of devotion, temples across Telangana have embellished Ganesha idols with currency notes totaling 2.90 crore rupees.

Temples in several districts of Telangana have recently decorated the statues of Lord Ganesha with stacks of currency notes, a gesture that has attracted attention from devotees and media alike. The combined value of the notes used in the adornments is reported to be Rs 2.90 crore.

The practice, carried out during the annual Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, involved placing bundles of ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100 and ₹200 notes around the idols. Temple officials said the money was donated by local devotees and then used to embellish the statues as a form of offering.

Witnesses at the sites described the scene as both colorful and solemn, noting that the decorated idols drew larger crowds than usual. Some temple priests explained that the act symbolizes the removal of financial obstacles and the wish for prosperity.

While the gesture has been praised by many as a creative way to honor the deity, some critics have raised concerns about the environmental impact of using large amounts of paper money in religious displays.
