Deputy Chief Minister K. T. Rama Rao urged a clear, transparent valuation before the government moves ahead with the proposed IDBI Bank privatization.
Deputy Chief Minister K. T. Rama Rao raised questions in the state assembly on Thursday over the government's plan to privatise IDBI Bank. He said the proposed deal must be backed by a thorough and transparent valuation to protect public interest.
Rama Rao warned that an opaque assessment could lead to an undervalued sale, causing losses for taxpayers and investors alike. He urged the finance ministry to disclose the methodology and assumptions used in the bank's valuation.
The minister also called for parliamentary oversight and a detailed report before any final decision is taken, stressing that the process should be open to scrutiny by all stakeholders.
While the central government has not yet announced a timeline for the transaction, KTR's remarks add political pressure for greater accountability in the privatisation agenda.
