The National Democratic Alliance, led by the Telugu Desam Party, secured a sweeping victory in the recent municipal elections across Andhra Pradesh, winning the majority of seats in key cities.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), headed by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), won a decisive majority in the municipal elections held across Andhra Pradesh on 6 March 2024.
TDP-led candidates captured most of the 1,200 seats contested in 47 municipal corporations, including major cities such as Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur. The party’s campaign focused on local development and anti-corruption promises.
Election officials reported a voter turnout of 58%, a slight increase from the previous cycle. The results are expected to strengthen the NDA’s position in the state’s upcoming legislative assembly elections.
Political analysts note that the victory reflects growing public confidence in the TDP’s governance record at the local level.
The party’s success is seen as a significant boost ahead of the 2024 state elections, where the NDA aims to consolidate its influence.
