Punjab's authorities have recorded over 3,000 stubble‑burning incidents, with Tarn Taran district reporting the highest number.

Punjab's environmental monitoring agencies have reported that the number of stubble‑burning cases in the state has crossed the 3,000 mark, according to data cited by The Economic Times.

Among the districts, Tarn Taran stands out as the leader, registering the largest share of violations. The district's agricultural fields have been identified as the hotspot for these illegal fires.

Stubble burning, a practice that releases significant pollutants and contributes to poor air quality, is prohibited under the state's forest and pollution control laws. Enforcement officials have been issuing notices and initiating legal action against farmers found violating the ban.

State officials say they are intensifying surveillance and promoting alternative residue‑management methods, such as machine‑assisted removal and the use of bio‑decomposers, to curb the practice ahead of the upcoming cropping season.
