Himachal Pradesh has dispatched the inaugural inter‑state consignment of Golden Mahseer fingerlings to West Bengal, marking a milestone in the state's fish‑seed industry.
The fisheries department of Himachal Pradesh has completed the first ever inter‑state shipment of Golden Mahseer fingerlings to West Bengal. The consignment, described as a landmark for the state's aquaculture initiatives, aims to support the cultivation of this prized game fish in eastern India.
Officials said the fingerlings were sourced from certified hatcheries in Himachal, where the species is bred under controlled conditions to ensure survival and genetic quality. The shipment was transported under temperature‑controlled conditions to maintain the health of the delicate fry.
West Bengal's fisheries authorities have welcomed the arrival, noting that the Golden Mahseer is both a conservation priority and a potential high‑value species for local farmers. The move is expected to strengthen cooperation between the two states and expand the market for indigenous fish seed across India.
The successful dispatch underscores the growing emphasis on sustainable aquaculture and the role of state‑level coordination in meeting the rising demand for native fish species.
