Authorities in Sikkim removed blockages from several rivers, preventing a potential flash flood that could have impacted the state’s hilly regions.

Heavy rainfall in recent days had raised concerns of flash floods in Sikkim’s mountainous districts. In response, state officials mobilised teams to clear debris and obstructions from key rivers, including the Teesta and Rung. The clearance work, completed over the past 48 hours, restored normal water flow and eliminated the immediate flood threat. The state’s disaster management department has urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any sudden water level changes.
