Sikkim Group Raises Territorial Objections to Proposed Gorkhaland Settlement

A civil society group from Sikkim has publicly flagged worries that any agreement to create a Gorkhaland state could encroach on Sikkim's territorial boundaries. The group, which represents local interests, said the proposed settlement raises questions about the demarcation of the state's borders.

The organization urged the state and central governments to engage in detailed consultations before any boundary changes are contemplated, warning that premature decisions could disrupt the delicate geographic and cultural balance of the region.

As of now, officials from the Sikkim government and the Ministry of Home Affairs have not issued a formal response to the group's concerns, leaving the issue pending further discussion.
