The municipal authorities in Mohali have approved a Rs 4.7 million project to upgrade the roads of Swastik Vihar colony, aiming to ease traffic for residents.
The Mohali municipal corporation announced a road‑improvement scheme for Swastik Vihar colony, allocating a budget of Rs 4.7 million. The project will involve resurfacing, widening narrow stretches and improving drainage to address waterlogging during monsoons. Work is slated to start within the next fortnight and is expected to be completed in three months. Residents have welcomed the initiative, citing long‑standing congestion and pothole problems that have hampered daily commutes. The corporation has assured that traffic diversions will be managed to minimise inconvenience during construction.
The funding comes from the local development fund, and the contractor selected has prior experience in urban road projects in Punjab. Officials will monitor progress through weekly inspections and will provide updates to the public via the municipal website and local media.
Upon completion, the upgraded road network is projected to reduce travel time across the colony by up to 30 percent, enhancing connectivity to nearby markets, schools and the industrial area of Phase 7. The initiative aligns with the broader city‑wide effort to modernise infrastructure ahead of the upcoming state elections.
